My promise of peace for you will never be broken, says the Lord who has mercy upon you.
Isaiah 54: 10 (the Living Bible)

Security

By Erich Remmers

Obviously is it our own choice when we wake up to the news readers of the “Today” programme and a few minutes later at the breakfast table are engrossed in the morning paper, almost forgetting how delicious fresh morning rolls and croissants really taste.

However we also buy in to the unrest when we believe that we have to be right up to date with the latest opinions. Our inner soul finds it difficult to cope with the daily bombardments of despairing news items and a variety of trivia knowledge. As a result we just brush over the events or become immune or sceptical.

The food recipes and fighter planes all blur, and are presented with a blend of Radio and TV advertising and catchy jingle music. Even a catastrophe report becomes like entertainment. The diversity and overload of the information media uproot and deaden our souls.

We have to resist this. The best protection against heavy rain and floodwaters is a house build on a solid foundation with thick walls near the summit of a high mountain.

Jesus offers us this type of protection. To listen to him first helps us to order the voices of our world, giving our soul the needed still points and true perspectives. Following his instructions gives our feet support. The veil over our eyes is lifted and our view clears to see the essential reality: To God, to people who yearn for warmth and security in need of our support.
